When I was a child, there were many clan gatherings to attend. Someone was always getting hitched, so the meetings were usually matrimonial, and always included dancing.
As soon as the music started at the reception, the Irish were on their feet, and closing in on the dance floor. No matter the generation, there were clan members cutting the rug or getting down with their bad selves. And the other side was beckoned to join in with outstretched hands and big waving motions. Everyone can dance. C'mon!
The wedding I remember most was the one when I first saw my parents dance together. On that floor they were a pair, in sync, happy to be moving in each other's orbit, forgetting the bills and arguments and differences for a few minutes. Did you know that the best art is created when you can successfully combine opposites?
We had another wedding this summer: niece teacher Allison and future doctor Greg.
Definitely a good pair.
And there was much dancing...both sides moving to the tunes the hired DJ spun into speakers. It was the successful merging of two families through color, food, party, and sound. Everyone wanted to be there.
I have come to the conclusion that spirit consists of everything around us. And soul is what we individually bring to this party of spirit called life.
